Hybrid Course (01 Credit-hour) entitled, “Laboratory Safety & Security”

INTRODUCTION:

The Sindh Innovation, Research, and Education Network (SIREN) working under the auspices of the Government of Sindh and the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), is organizing a hybrid course entitled, “Laboratory Safety and Security” This one-credit hour course has been designed for graduate and postgraduate studying subjects related to chemistry and biology and working in laboratories. It will enable students to learn basic protocols required before working in the laboratory. Research scholars, students, scientists, and faculty of SIREN affiliated universities are cordially invited to attend this important course.

COURSE OVERVIEW:

Student anticipating work in a chemistry laboratory should need to learn basic safety principles before working in lab. During laboratory work as a student and as a professional, you are expected to know:

Ø  Behavior Based Safety

Ø  General Safety Practices

Ø  Hazard / Risk Identification and Mitigation.

Ø  Specific laboratory policies and procedures for lab or area where you work.

Ø  Protect yourself and your colleagues from any life/health threatening situation in lab.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:

Ø  Mr. Khalid Latif carries over 30 years of experience at Leadership positions in multi-national companies, including Hoechst, Schering Rhône-Poulenc, and Bayer. He earned a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from the University of Karachi.

Ø  He has participated in various medium-term assignments/projects in manufacturing facilities of parent companies in Europe and the Asia-Pacific countries. He delivers lectures on various technical and social subjects, including Health, Safety, and Environment, Career Counseling, Entrepreneurship, Organizational Development, at ICCBS, University of Karachi, Jinnah University for Women, and COMSTECH Secretariat, Islamabad.
